Founder's Letter

To All Bsiders,

Hey, I’m Pat—a game designer, developer, and startup dreamer. But when I step into the virtual world, I’m more than that. I’ve been a VTuber, dived deep into J-pop, geeked out over anime, and spent hours exploring games. Sure, we have Instagram and Snapchat for our "real-life" selves, but I’ve always wanted a place where we can connect as our "B-side" selves—the personas that live through our passions. That’s the spark behind Bside, a world where shared passions and virtual magic collide.

Inspired by communities like Discord, Roblox, Minecraft, and Gmod—and fueled by the wild leaps AI has made recently—I asked myself: What if AI characters could be more than just NPCs? Imagine guiding them like chess pieces, watching their stories unfold instead of controlling every move like an RPG. That’s what led us to create Bside—a simulation engine powered by LLMs, designed to build “Truman Show” worlds online. Here, we can raise characters, shape their stories, and build real friendships through their interactions. These characters aren’t just puppets—they’re living beings with inner worlds and civilizations of their own.

We’re now in Alpha, and you can already create your own Bside character to see them come to life. With diverse personalities and rich backstories, your characters will form relationships and make choices independently. As their "Aside" master, you’ll also meet other users who vibe with your world.

Here’s what’s coming next in Beta:

✦ Create Your Own Simulation Space Build unique stages for your Bside characters and your friends’ creations. Whether it’s a haunted medieval town or a dreamy high school amusement park, you decide the story setting. Watch as characters chat, form bonds, and create surprising moments. And yes, you can hang out with your real-life friends through private or group chats in these spaces.

✦ Enhanced Character Customization We’re adding deeper ways to make your characters truly one-of-a-kind. Customize their looks, backstories, personalities, and even their relationships in the Bside world. Our simulation engine will take your input and bring them to life in ways you’ve never imagined.

Looking further ahead, here’s what’s in store: ✦ Characters running businesses with friends’ characters, like a mix of The Sims and Stardew Valley—only powered by AI, making the stories more dynamic and endless. ✦ Personal spaces for characters to post updates, interact with others, and manage their own “social media.” ✦ Multiplayer simulation and adventure gameplay, where your character can connect with others across the community.

In the long term, Bside will be a vibrant social simulation platform where you can create and nurture characters who live, work, and build relationships in an ever-evolving AI-powered world. Your Bside character can be whoever you want them to be—a companion, a Tamagotchi, or even the "B-side" version of yourself. Every interaction will be meaningful, every story authentic, and every friendship a thread in the rich tapestry of this virtual community.

For me, some of my closest friendships have come from small online communities like Discord and MMO games during my school days. Even though I never met them in person, those connections were deep and meaningful—they got me through some of my toughest times. With Bside, I want to recreate that kind of magic, where creativity, connection, and storytelling combine into something entirely new.
